Nano Brows and microblading both create the look of natural brow hairs, so it’s easy to mix them up. The real difference is the tool your artist uses, and what that tool makes possible. Here’s a plain-language guide to help you choose.
The short answer
Microblading uses a manual hand tool to draw each hair stroke. Nano Brows use a permanent makeup machine with a very fine needle cartridge to place each stroke. Both are semi-permanent cosmetic tattoos that fade gradually over time.
How microblading works
Microblading is done by hand. The artist uses a small blade made of tiny needles to create fine, hair-like strokes in the brow area, then adds pigment. It’s a stroke-only technique, so the result is a hair-stroke look.
How Nano Brows work
Nano Brows are created with a permanent makeup machine fitted with a fine needle cartridge. The artist places very fine, precise strokes that follow the direction of your natural brow hair. Because it’s a machine technique, the same appointment can also build soft shading when you want more fullness:
- Nano Brows: ultra-natural hair strokes.
- Nano Ombré Brows: soft gradient shading, lighter at the front and more defined through the tail.
- Nano Combo Brows: fine hair strokes blended with delicate shading.

What healing looks like
With any permanent makeup brows, fresh brows look darker and more defined than the healed result. They may feel dry or flake lightly while healing, and the colour softens over the following weeks. Follow your aftercare plan, don’t pick, and your touch-up appointment will perfect the details.
